Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, María del Mar Hernández Gil de Lamadrid is a contemporary self-portrait and visual artist. The medium she mainly experiments is photography, but includes printmaking and digital manipulation for her constructive images. She completed a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts-Photography from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. She currently is a first-year Master of Fine Arts student at the Photography program, Parsons School of Design, New York. She has participated in collective exhibitions and also has published her works in magazines. Her work has been exhibited in Puerto Rico, China, Japan, and New York City, United States. She explores intuitively the relationship between subject and space, and uses photography as a creative and conceptual process as means of approaching issues of identity in a political and philosophical context.
